Chapter 10 - Finn

Chains rattled and clanked as Kai’s fists collided with the punching bag again and again. Zach stood behind it and put the bag back in place whenever Kai needed it, nodding and pushing him forward. Sweat ran down his face, yet Kai pushed through it with his usual ferocity.

Finn could scarcely focus on what was happening around him, for he could only think about River. About how soft she felt beneath his touch. The way she moved for him and made those intoxicating sounds.

She was all-consuming, and Finn was completely wrapped up in her.

The thought had him craving her again, but it wasn’t the place.

After their hookup in the woods, Finn went home on cloud nine. That pleasure followed him into that following day, and he wanted nothing more than to gush about how incredible it had been. But he couldn’t.

Finn couldn’t tell Kai he had slept with his sister. It just wouldn’t fly.

He needed to keep it to himself for his own good—for Rivers too.

“Nice,” Zach said, grabbing the bag once Kai pulled away and reached for his towel. His chest glistened in sweat as he caught his breath.

“So, any luck with those prospects?” Kai asked through his labored breathing.

Finn adjusted his hand wrap and shrugged it off. He took Kai’s place in front of the bag and rolled his shoulders to loosen himself up.

“Nah. They haven’t gone anywhere.”

Kai cocked a brow and took a swig of water. “That’s not the Finn I know.”

“Dry spells happen, man,” Finn added, lacking his usual enthusiasm about the topic.

Zach scoffed. “Dry spell? What about that love-struck smile on your face when you first walked in here?”

Even they noticed. Finn swallowed discreetly, not planning on having his cover blown. “You must be seeing things, Hill.”

Zach chuckled and backed away from the bag. “Whatever, man. Show the bag whose boss.”

Not needing to be told twice, Finn sent his fist flying into the bag. He drilled against it repeatedly, using it as a distraction from almost being found out. He put as much energy into it as he could until he finally broke a sweat.

Finn reached his limit and wiped the sweat away from his face with the hem of his shirt, and he glanced toward the door once he sensed another body in the gym. He bristled at the sight of Mia as she approached them.

He had nothing to say to her, stunned by her presence. Finn hadn’t seen her on the pack grounds in years.

Kai sent a sneaky questioning look in Finn’s direction before he returned his gaze to Mia and forced a small smile.

“I figured I’d find you guys here,” Mia said, expression more pleasant than Finn was used to. He didn’t understand why she was popping up all over the place or what she wanted.

When her eyes landed on Finn, they looked hungry—interested. She took him in, bolder than he expected of her, and his brows furrowed.

“I see why you’re looking bigger lately. I could get used to this.
